If Ollerton Town's match against Harworth Colliery was a Boxing match, the first hour would have been a cagey, and close affair, with both fighters exchanging punches but Harworth just ahead on points, thanks to Matthew Thompson's 21st minute opener.
However the decisive spell of the fight saw Ollerton deliver a flurry of heavy blows in quick succession, scoring three times in six minutes, to leave Harworth on the canvas.
The reverse fixture saw Harworth claim a 1-0 victory, but Ollerton went into Saturday's fixture with an impressive record at Scrooby Road, winning on their last four visits.
They started brightly on Saturday and top goalscorer Alex Wilkinson had two early opportunities, the first a low drive which deflected just wide, and the second, a powerful shot which forced the home 'keeper into a strong save to his right.
Harworth had a few half chances of their own, and it was they who took the lead. The ball arrived at the feet of Matthew Thompson on the edge of the area, and he found the back of the net against one of his former clubs, sending a shot into the bottom corner, via a nick off a defender.
One of Thompson's team mates during his last spell at Ollerton was Adam Scott, who had also enjoyed a spell with Harworth, and it was Scott who looked the most likely to get an equaliser for the Town. In the 29th minute, he cut inside from the left and curled a shot at goal, which dropped just wide of the far corner.
Two minutes later, he was involved again as he latched onto a loose ball, skipped past his man but then blazed over the bar.
It remained 1-0 at the interval but it had been a closely-fought opening 45, with Ollerton still very much in the contest.
Early in the second half, they had two opportunities from free kicks within a matter of minutes. It was Scott who stepped up to take the first, but he fired just over the bar. Freddie Norris tried his luck with the second, but it ended with the same result.
Ollerton's deserved equaliser arrived in the 59th minute, and saw the start of a six minute period which would decide the game. The lively Norris came in from the wing and floated a teasing cross into the area, and Josh Madin was able to ghost in and deftly head the ball into the back of the net.
Three minutes later, Ollerton went ahead. Vlad Nittiss split the Harworth defence with a perfectly weighted through ball into the path of Scott, and he calmly finished into the corner past the advancing 'keeper.
At this point, Harworth looked dazed and confused, and in the 65th minute, Ollerton delivered the knock out blow. After going past his man with ease, the impressive Wilkinson was hacked down inside the area with the referee having no choice but to point to the spot. It was Scott who stepped up to take the spot kick, and he coolly clipped the ball home from 12 yards for his second of the game.
In the 71st minute, Ollerton almost had another. Scott put Wilkinson through one-on-one but the young forward was denied his eighth of the season by a good save.
Harworth managed to regain their feet somewhat, and headed over a good opportunity in the 80th minute as they went in search for a way back into the game.
With three minutes of normal time remaining, Scott almost secured his hat-trick. Lewis Neville got down the right and clipped a cross into the area, but Scott's header from 8 yards out was easily saved.
There was still time for Harworth to have one last effort, a tame effort being easily held by 'keeper Gareth Briggs, but Ollerton saw out the game to secure a big three points.
