Second Half Stunners Send Ollerton To Defeat

Second Half Stunners Send Ollerton To Defeat

Liam Kent6 Jan - 09:57

Ollerton lost their opening game of 2025.

Just as they did on the opening game of the season, AFC Bentley got the better of Ollerton Town in the first game of 2025, beating Lee Cook's side 4-0.

The game was only one of a handful of contests that survived the winter weather, with Ollerton looking to build on their 5-3 win over AFC Phoenix the previous week.

Bentley came into the fixture as one of the most in-form teams in the entire division, unbeaten in their last eight, and they had the first opportunity, Craig Aspinall firing over inside the fourth minute.

They took the lead on the half hour mark. The ball was pulled back from the byline towards the middle of the area, where Bradley Maddison was waiting to side foot past Ollerton 'keeper Josh Watson.

Ollerton's best chance of the half came in the 43rd minute. Adam Scott skipped past his man with ease on the left flank, and moved inside, before striking at goal with Bentley 'keeper Ryan Bedford getting down to his right to parry away well.

The game was very much in the balance going into the interval, but Bentley scored again in the 56th minute to take control of proceedings. A corner from Tom Ward was kept in the air by Brad Sykes and Danny Dickinson, before Deven Hannan headed home from close range.

It was 3-0 in the 73rd minute, and it arrived in stunning fashion. Bradley Maddison found space 30 yards out, and instead of driving forward, he unleashed a powerful strike which flew past the dive of Watson and into the back of the net, leaving the Ollerton stopper with no chance.

Ollerton were not without opportunities of their own. Scott jinked his way into the area, but was just denied the space to pull the trigger thanks to some resolute Bentley defending.

Aaron Blakemore scored two on his Ollerton debut last week, and he almost got another as a low ball from the right picked him out 12 yards from goal, but he failed to connect properly and the chance went begging.

In the 86th minute, an Ollerton corner came out to Freddie Norris on the edge of the area, but his half volley went wide of the target.

With seconds left on the clock, Bentley added a fourth to rubber stamp their victory. Zack King did well to create some space on the edge of the box, before releasing another unstoppable strike which flew into the top corner.
