Clubs in the Northern Counties East League may be able to sign players all year round, but that hasn't stopped Ollerton Town getting into the spirit of the Transfer Window being opened, as Manager Dave Winter has added three new faces to his squad as he looks to re-energise his squad going into the final few months of the season.
The first addition is George Pearce, a dual signing from Newark Town of the Central Midlands League, who will help Ollerton in midweek fixtures. George is a talented midfielder or defender who made his debut in Tuesday's game against Teversal.
Another player who made his debut in that game was attacker, Tommy Durrant. Tommy has played against us several times over the years whilst at Harworth Colliery and he's also well acquainted with several members of the squad, having previously played with them at Thoresby. Tommy can play out wide or down the middle and will no doubt make an impact over the rest of the season.
The last of the three signings is the first time this season that the club have signed someone from another NCEL club. Talented midfielder Matthew Thompson (pictured) arrives at The Lane from Premier Division side, Rainworth MW. The hardcore Ollerton fans amongst you may remember that Matthew played two games for us early on last season, before joining Rainworth where he went on to play twenty-four times as the Wrens finished in 9th place. Matthew was previously at Sheffield United's academy and goes straight in to Saturday's squad against Grimsby Borough.
It's been difficult for Dave to bring in the players he'd like, with several choosing to stay or go elsewhere because of the promise of higher football or money which we simply can't compete with. However, he'll be delighted to get these three signings over the line as we look to secure our position in the NCEL for next season.
